LUJAN: REPUBLICAN SPENDING BILL A MISSED OPPORTUNITY TO INVEST IN INFRASTRUCTURE AND CREATE JOBS
WASHINGTON, D.C. – June 10, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — Congressman Ben Ray Luján of New Mexico’s Third District released the following statement after voting last night against House Republicans’ Transportation-Housing and Urban Development Appropriations bill.
“House Republicans offered a bill that fails to undo devastating sequester cuts, and therefore shortchanges transportation and housing initiatives that help build stronger communities in New Mexico and across the country. This spending bill is a missed opportunity to invest in infrastructure that can help put everyday Americans to work rebuilding the roads, bridges, and rail systems that are critical to our economic competitiveness.
“At a time when funding is needed to make critical safety upgrades and track improvements, especially along the Southwest Chief route, this legislation cuts resources for Amtrak. The tragic train crash in the Northeast should have been a call to action. Instead House Republicans passed more spending cuts that will severely impact the ability to improve the safety and reliability of our nation’s rail system.”
